LTW Outreach event

As part of the UTOPIAE Network’s training the 15 ESRs developed a series of table top activities and games to demonstrate the concepts behind optimisation and uncertainty quantification. These activities are being used in conjunction with a series of public engagement events to help the general public understand these research fields and there importance to wider society and the role they have to play in the future of technological advancement.

On Monday 19th February at Glasgow Science Centre as part of the 1st Local Training Workshop, the ESRs spent the day engaging with groups of school children and families as well as individuals interested in science.

The activities were a huge success with the visitors and led to discussion around what optimisation means and why faster or quicker doesn’t always mean better or optimum and how quantifying uncertainty works and how it can improve systems and processes.
