Opening Training School success

The UTOPIAE Opening Training School was hosted at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland. The conference took place from 20th – 24th November 2017.

There was a packed schedule and despite a non stop run of presentations there was still time for some fun, both during the programme and in the evenings.

The “pub quiz” provided a lot of entertainment as our new ESRs competed in teams to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the fields of research presented by the assorted speakers. The competition was very tight, but in the end the team comprising Elisa, Anabel, Gianluca, and Thomas prevailed. The prize was a bottle of 12 year old single malt, which they very sportingly shared our with the other teams.

A bustling social programme ensured that the evenings were as busy as the days and the attendees left Glasgow thoroughly versed in the bars and restaurants of the city as well as having tried their hand at a ceilidh.

We look forward to the next event, which will see us all together again in Durham in summer 2018. Before then the ESRs have another trip to Glasgow to look forward to in February for the first Local Training Workshop and we are sure they will put all of the local knowledge gained to excellent use!
